Greetings! The February, March, and April issues of the Marina Times would be dedicated to considering the development of Chennai's beach areas, especially from Marina Beach, to Elliot's Beach. Chennai is presently in the midst of a great transition: its eastern side - its face to the world - is undergoing massive transformations. Whatever takes shape would go a long way towards defining the city for decades to come. Thus, it is a worthy journalistic task for us to investigate what is occurring on numerous levels - including regarding social, cultural, environmental, engineering, architectural, urban design, and legal and regulatory issues. Looming over the whole is the question: In what ways might Chennai's sea-fishing communities continue to exist, if at all? It is said that Chennai began as a fishing village, and that part of Chennai's beach area was once known as "Amai-oor ("Place of turtles"). Might Chennai maintain and develop its original identities? Or might Chennai's soul be lost in a rush towards luxury and profit for the few? Read on, dear reader, and then let your opinions be known - this is what makes a healthy public sphere.

சென்னை மெரினா கடற்கரை முதல் எலிஒட்ச் கடற்கரை வரை நடைபெற்று வரும் வளர்ச்சி பணிகள் குறித்த செய்திகளுடன் வெளி வர இருக்கிறது.சென்னை தற்போது ஒரு பெரிய மாற்றத்தின் மத்தியில் இருக்கிறது. அதன் கிழக்கு பகுதி - உலகத்திற்கான சென்னையின் அடையாளம் - ஒரு பெரிய மாற்றத்திற்கு உள்ளாகி வருகிறது. இந்த மாற்றத்தின் முடிவு எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு சென்னையின் அடையாளமாக அது திகழும். எனவே இந்த வளர்ச்சி பணிகள் பற்றிய விசாரணைகளும் ஆராய்சிகளும் செய்வது ஒரு இதழியலாளனுடைய பணி.

சென்னையின் பாரம்பரிய மீனவ சமுதாயம் இதில் பிழைக்குமேயானால் அதன் பிறகு அவர்களின் வாழ்வு எவ்வாறு அமையும்?
சென்னை ஒரு மீனவ கிராமமாக தான் முதலில் இருந்ததாகவும், சென்னையின் கடற்கரையின் அந்த பகுதி "ஆமையூர்" (ஆமைகளின் ஊர்)
என அழைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் கூறுவர்.
சென்னை தன் உண்மையான அடையாளங்களை தக்கவைத்து வளர்க்குமா? அல்லது வெகு சிலரின் ஆதாயத்திற்காக ஆடம்பரங்கள் சென்னையின் ஆன்மாவாக்கப்படுமா? தொடர்ந்து படியுங்கள், அன்பு வாசகர்களே,
